Another Destruction
Common conceptions of the Devil and demons are rooted in a blended background of Greek, Roman and Germanic mythology. Depictions betray that mixed influence; they are simply not at all what’s in the Bible. We can thank the Elohim Council for this balderdash; it’s a direct result of their corruption after the Tower of Babel (the third rebellion). They have been trying to bury the first and second rebellions in mythology so that we will not have a clear view of how the rebel alliance (Kingdom of Darkness) operates.
Mainstream church Demonology is based on this twisted mythology. It’s a very large task dismantling this nonsense in favor of a biblical view, and we should hardly be surprised when the mainstream of American society clings with truculence to their mythology. The entire system of political power rests partially on this stuff.
Restoring the Hebraic concept rests largely on Second Temple literature. It’s more than just the stories of the Watchers, but 1 Enoch is a good summary. We know this because several New Testament writers relied on that summary. Every element of doctrine about demons must be filtered through the basic precepts of this backstory. I’ve tried to do that on this blog.
God prepared for His divine courts a large staff of beings who are far above humans. The entire class of beings is referred to in Scripture as elohim (plural) or “sons of God”. At some point, God created a Garden that was ephemeral in nature, not eternal. He also created immortal humans to keep His private garden. He declared them His imagers. Something about this whole situation infuriated members of His elohim staff. The key figure in objecting is the one we now call the Devil, formerly God’s Chief Bodyguard.
God didn’t take this lightly. Since His Chief Bodyguard was, in essence, in rebellion against His divine will, God sentenced him to reside within a space-time continuum away from His divine Presence – AKA, the Abyss. We cannot imagine how uncomfortable this would be for an eternal being, but human sorrow in mortality may give us a hint. Somehow this Abyss was connected to God’s Garden, because the Garden was also within the space-time continuum. While we have no way of grasping the whole story, only a parable that roughly approximates the royal courts of some Ancient Near Eastern sheikh, we are told in Scripture that the Devil presented a formal objection that fired an eternal debate.
In the process, the Devil managed to gain the support of some portion of God’s Elohim Council, the highest ranking figures in the divine court. God entertained this challenge with certain limits. He allowed a sort of test case to proceed. Part of this test was the Devil seducing humans in the Garden to come under his authority. This resulted in the Fall; humans became mortal. That is, they were clothed with mortal bodies that belonged to the Garden over which they previously ruled, and by default, also under the authority of the Devil.
On the one hand, the Garden is not fallen in itself; it was designed mortal in the first place. Rather, eternal humans clothed in the mortality of the Garden are fallen from their former immortal nature. They still have that immortal nature somewhere inside, but are not normally able to access it without some help from God.
Despite the wailing and gnashing of teeth from many church folks, the Bible flatly states the Doctrine of Divine Election, that some humans are eternal, but not all of them. It appears a solid majority of humans do not have an eternal nature. For all intents and purposes, they will always belong to the Devil as servants that carry out his will. The Devil’s primary intention is to destroy humans altogether and his allies support this goal. The Devil objected to the existence of humans in the first place, and is doing all he can to compel God to destroy them.
His methods include persuading humans to turn against God’s revealed plans for them, to make them so onerous to God that destruction is all that’s left. So, the Kingdom of Darkness has been working hard to misguide humans away from divine revelation. Humans are supposed to endure their mortal passage and seek God’s glory until they are restored to their eternal nature. The Devil’s initial sin was trying to divert some of that glory to himself.
It doesn’t matter what the Devil can persuade humans to do, as long as it doesn’t include willfully giving glory to God. Any distraction at all will do. Granted, we know from Scripture that a primary temptation is for humans to seek their own glory within the space-time continuum, with nary a moment’s thought about Eternity. The Devil uses the non-elect humans to keep the Elect from recognizing their nature and their purpose in Creation.
The Devil owns our mortal existence by default. Only by the Holy Spirit’s work in our souls can we be awakened to our eternal nature. There is nothing the Devil can do to keep you from election. All he can do is keep you distracted while you are here in this mortal realm, which in turn keeps you away from God’s glory. That glory is what makes our mortal existence worth enduring. It also serves to condemn the Devil’s sin when we live in divine glory.
This is a brief account of the backstory. At the same time, if you understand the backstory, then you realize that a part of what we can know about demonic activity is also experiential. That’s because the Devil is pretty creative at building up all sorts of new distractions. The story of Enoch tells us that the Watchers (rebel elohim) descended to this mortal realm and began teaching humans every perversion possible. As part of that corruption process, they captivated human females who gave birth to half-human Nephilim. There’s something about this that forms the essence of feminism.
The Nephilim led humans into depravity by ruling them. Eventually, God issued an edict that all the Nephilim must die, losing their mortal presence. It took some time to be enforced, but all the Nephilim eventually died and were forced to share the Abyss with the Devil. Meanwhile, their fathers (the Watchers) are also forced to remain in the Abyss. We can be sure that their sentence does not hinder them full access to the mortal realm of humans. What we call “demons” are the disembodied spirits of the Nephilim, and this world is their realm of operations. It’s all they have.
Most of human history is a reflection of their operations, keeping humans distracted from divine glory, pursuing anything and everything else. Scripture refers to how those creatures can gain access to human faculties that aren’t eternal. That includes your intellect, emotions, fleshly desires, and some limited access to your heart – the seat of your will. They cannot touch your spirit. Words do not exist to offer a clinical description of how that works out, but we have a wealth of symbolic discussion in the Bible.
Simplified, the Nephilim want to keep us away from God’s glory, His divine will for us while we remain in mortal form. That was expressed by several covenants in Scripture, culminating with the Covenant of Christ. Over the past 2000 years or so since that Covenant was revealed, the Kingdom of Darkness has been busy striving to bury that covenant from human awareness. Human learning outside the Covenant has progressed and the specific details of how the Nephilim operate have drifted to match.
We observe today that the kind of “demon possession” we see in the New Testament rarely manifests today. I’m sure we’ve all encountered someone who was truly wicked, about as possessed as could be, so it would seem. Still, there is a wide range of lesser influence in people’s lives that is somewhere short of that total dominion. Indeed, we have all lived with this ourselves. The Nephilim will always own a certain portion of our mortal human existence. Our mission for divine glory includes reducing their claim on us through covenant obedience. We are evicting them.
Thus, our recent community weekly Bible study highlighted the overwhelming power of feminism in the West, leaking out into the whole world. This makes things very efficient for the Nephilim. It’s a lot less work for them to tempt and torment the Elect when one of the worst corruptions possible has settled into place in this world.
You should act as if virtually every woman you encounter in the West is a vector for demonic activity. The same goes for any matriarchal non-western society. Everywhere that women dominate, the Nephilim rule as they did in the days of Noah and at the Tower of Babel. This is why we refer to a covenant woman as “a unicorn” – such women are so incredibly rare that it seems almost mythical. Yes, there are places where western feminism hasn’t penetrated so deep; you can find women who aren’t so eager to dominate. However, the corruption of western feminism is increasingly hard to escape.
It’s hard to imagine we will not face another “Days of Noah” catastrophe sometime soon just to trim back the Nephilim influence and give the Elect a decent chance to build covenant communities.
